Breast abscess

Yesterday I attended a One-Stop rapid access breast clinic following an incidental finding from a Cardiac MRI. I hadn’t even been aware I had a lump.

The examination found a lump, and had usual mammogram followed by US. The US showed a cyst, which when drained actually turned out to be a breast abscess. They’re sending the fluid off for tests, results after Christmas.

My question is - will draining it have cured it or should I approach GP for antibiotics?

I’m 52 post-menopausal so not really clear on why and how I’ve got an abscess! And woken up this morning to a boil on my bits!

I’ve been in and out of hospital following a heart attack in April and I feel like I’m single-handedly using up NHS money! 😞😑😑

If you needed antibiotics the hospital would've prescribed them but you probably need them for your other abscess. Hope you feel better soon.

Thank you @DawnWar

Had a telephone consult with my GP. She’s prescribed antibiotics. Should have had them anyway. I obviously have something v obscure because even the GP was shocked!

I had my first bout of Mastitis when i was 48, the following year i got a breast abscess that burst on its own, required 10 weeks of antibiotics to clear it, have had no trouble since.

I had a breast abscess earlier this year after a few cases of mastitis and it took 2 courses of antibiotics and had to have it drained 6 times but that was because I was still breastfeeding.
I also get boils down there, quite regularly actually but have never seen anyone about them and them seem to come and go on their own.
Hopefully the antibiotics will sort you out.

I get them often due to fibrocystic breast disease. Sometimes they are drained, other times they leave on their own after antibiotics.
