Persistent insect bite

Hoping for some answers as all my family have none!

I was bitten by some sort of black fly (horsefly?) back in August while camping (in Northern Europe, nowhere exotic!!)

The bloody thing is still itching, not swollen or bleeding like a fresh bite, it just flares up sometimes and itches like mad and then goes away.

I've been bitten by a horsefly before and that swelled up the size of a dinner plate, awful things. this one was just a normal sized bite that won't stop itching.

Of course I'm nervous now that it isn't a bite at all and I need to get it checked properly, even though I saw the bastard bite me...

I feel silly going to the drs for a healed bite that flares up occasionally.

I've just been using bog standard antisan cream.
Could it be an allergy and it needs something stronger? I don't have any allergies that I'm aware of.

Anyone had anything similar?

(I'm aware of the laid eggs in me joke, I made it to begin with but I'm actually a bit scared now so please don't!!Sad)

I had this on my foot. Flared up on and off for about two years but seems to have gone now. No idea what it was I’m afraid.

try taking a daily antihistamine in conjunction with the cream?

cinnamonwoman · 13/12/2019 12:11

Sorry to hear you were itchy for 2 years!! Not fun but pleased to know it just cleared up.

Thank you for the advice for an oral antihistamine, I'm such an allergy novice that it hadn't occurred that I could take one for an insect biteBlush
I will give it a shot and hopefully it'll bugger off Smile

@cinnamonwoman I honestly thought I’d go mad! But then it just disappeared! Very bizarre!

I got an anti-steroid cream for one of those never-ending bite, can buy over counter, was better than anti-histamine.
