What's causing my ear pain

I'm generally run down and have been under the weather for about a month. The latest thing is an intermittent, stabbing pain in my left ear. It's sudden and severe enough to make me catch my breath. It only lasts a few seconds then is gone again. What could be causing it and is there anything I can do?

A trapped nerve I think.
You need a scan, could be an acoustic neuroma

I would say nerve issue too.

I have thoracic outlet syndrome, and it often causes earache for me (just one of the many symptoms!). Do you have any shoulder, neck or arm symptoms? Aching, tingling, pain?

Make a GP appointment. Good luck.
