Help! Really bad pain

coffeeoclock · 29/11/2019 21:47

I've been diagnosed with Interstitial Cystitis recently (after 2 years of debilitating UTI pain that ended up not being infections 90% of the time!).

I don't want to go to the doctors obviously as it's most likely not a UTI and instead a flare up but the pain is SO BAD. Burning constantly and ibuprofen is giving no relief.

Does anyone have any pain management tips for IC? I've been avoiding coffee since the flare up started as that can irritate it even more.

Thanks!

can you get co codamol?

ChemiseBleu · 30/11/2019 21:18

You can get something called Azo on Amazon. It’s sold over the counter in the US but not in UK pharmacies. I used it when I thought I had recurring UTIs (but which turned out to be a kidney stone in my bladder).

@ChemiseBleu I've used Azo, it doesn't do anything for me unfortunately

@EleanorReally I've never had that, can I get it OTC?

Yes, short term use only

I have IC too. I take oxynorm, and top up with co-codomol. I drink cranberry tea and turmeric tea. But by far the best treatment I have is syringes from the doctor filled with the anaesthetic that is used for catheter instillation (installagel) and hibiscrub which I wash myself with every time I go to the toilet during a bout.

Ibuprofen and NSAIDSZ make it worse and can aggravate the condition. Paracetamol only. I assume you were drinking at least 3 litrs of tap water or weak squash a day? Hot water bottle on lower tummy. Keep your lower back warm. Cranberry tabs from holland and barrett daily. Wee before and after sex and wash (both of you) with unscented deep-fry green sanex.id recommended only using this in bath or shower for ever to try yo repeat flare ups

As much water and heat with paracetamol right now as you can manage.if after 3 days it's not gone or us worsening over next day or so it you are passing blood or strange smelling wee go to dr.

@GlamGiraffe oh really? My doctors have said ibuprofen is better to use as it's safer longterm.

Yes drinking loads and avoiding triggers like coffee etc. It seems to have eased off now but my god it was a bad flare up!
