Need my bunions doing

Has anyone had their bunions done recently?
I’m wondering what the recovery time is like, as I live alone and have a dog (would get a dog walker in).

Not me, but my friend had one foot done 18months or so ago.

I don't know if it is 'typical' or not but I was surprised how long the 'recovery' period was.
She was in pain for quite a while I'm afraid, and not really able to move from the sofa for a couple of weeks.
She couldn't get a show on for weeks (well, ended up with a man's shoe a couple of sizes bigger) and couldn't drive until about 3 months afterwards.

Hopefully hers was a 'bad case' ??

You'll be lucky to get it done at all, depending on where you live. Round here, it appears to be impossible! I wish you luck.

It is a long recovery time I'm afraid. A friend of mine had both feet done at separate times, and had to stay off her feet for a couple of weeks, followed by at least 4-6 weeks of careful management. As hers were bad, it was worth the inconvenience, but she does have a partner who could take up the slack, not sure how you would manage on your own.

I’m reluctant to have it done but I’m having a lot of pain all over my feet and doc thinks the only solution might be to have the bunions done, as they’re having a knock on effect. Oh well ... I’ll have to give it careful thought. My DSis says she’ll help.

In all honesty, it was 3 months before I could walk without crutches.

I was six weeks before I could walk properly, I couldn't have gone for a long walk for about three months. However, it was definitely the best thing I've ever done, as I can walk for miles now.

The post op treatment is literally to sit down with your feet up and not move, as it's the quickest way for them to heal. Even physios tell you this!

I've had my big toe joint fused due to arthritis. I live on my own. Had to keeo the foot elevated for two weeks for most of the time and not able to drive for six weeks in all. For a bunion sjrgery you may need a couple of weeks longer.

Someone did my shopping for me once a week, but there's on-line shopping to use instead. Othsrwise I managed being on my own going up and downstairs and pottering around.
