Hi there

I've always been pretty fit and healthy but I turned 50 last December and have noticed since then that I am feeling a lot of aches and pains especially in my knees, my hips and my lower back (and my neck at times). It's really quite bad at times, the other morning I woke up and couldn't even bend my knees so I decided to have a bath (to eae the pain) and I had to sit down in the bath without bending my legs - quite difficult!! I'm guessing it might be the onset of arthritis and I'm quite upset about it because every time I get up from a chair etc I experience quite a lot of pain and stiffness and I don't think I'm that old!! I am thinking about going to see my GP but unsure what they could actually do about this. Does anyone take any supplements or have any treatments that might help please, if in a similar situation?

Many thanks

Josie

It's a really common symptom of perimenopause. I had aches so bad they kept me awake at night. Now, post meno, they have vanished.
Also, Vit D deficiency can cause severe aches, so use a Vit D spray in winter.

To ease pain, the figure of 4 stretch is a good one and can be done lying down or standing up.

Lying down. Put your feet flat on the floor so your bent knees point towards the ceiling. Then lift one leg and rest the ankle on the opposite leg, just above the knee, making a shape like the number 4. Now raise the bent knee towards you and you should feel the stretch quite strongly in your hip.

Before getting out of bed, point and flex your toes several times and circle your feet in both directions. If I don't do that I hobble until the circulation gets going!
