MRI brain tumour

Hi,
I had an MRI for a suspected brain tumour around 8 days ago and I was told 2-3 weeks for results. I called today and was told that my neurologist hasn’t been at his job at my hospital since my scan (he works at 2 other hospitals and one private place) and was told to call back if I hadn’t heard in 2 weeks time. As it was an MRI to check for a brain tumour, would I have been contacted by now if they found one even though my consultant hasn’t been working at my hospital? Would he have to see it and then contact me or would the hospital call me without him knowing?

I had a brain scan in June for brain tumour / stroke etc, also told result in 2 weeks from consultant who appeared to hardly ever work there.

At our hospital what appeared to happen was there were initial findings made and following this a list of people made the hospital needs to phone - the phone call would be from your consultant but if he's not there someone else is supposed to cover.

I think you normally get called quickly in the case of a brain tumour so would have expected you to have heard by now. In my case I called just before the two weeks and was told your consultant should have phoned you by now as you are on our list of people that need to be phoned Shock 2 minutes later I heard from consultant apologising - no brain tumour or stroke but mini-strokes had been found. I would presume if it had been a bigger issue someone else would have phoned before then.

Hope its all clear for you, generally the longer you wait the more likely it is to be all clear. I would give another call in maybe a week's time but generally if you phone them it's normally fine, when they phone you it's not all clear. I did a thread on this before under a different username and the people with brain tumours had often been called in 48 hours.

I had one done and it took 9 weeks to get the results!

I'm pretty sure that anything suspicious will be fast tracked and you would get a call within a week.

When DSis was diagnosed in Aberdeen, the scan had to be reviewed by a team which seemed to comprise neuro specialists in Edinburgh and Manchester (or maybe Leeds). I think if a tumour is detected then they have to know what kind of tumour it is before they can decide on any further diagnosis and a treatment plan.

Initial diagnosis was just about the two weeks. I got a call on the Sunday asking to take her in on the Thursday.

Fingers crossed for good news, OP.
