Wise Mnetters - is there any way to delay the start of a period?

Have spent this evening with a dear friend who is just into a new relationship & has booked herself & her new man into a fab hotel next weekend. Only to look at the calendar & realise that her period is due on Saturday.

Do any of you wise women know if there's a way of delaying one's period coming. Common sense tells me not, but promised I'd ask...

If she goes to the GP, she can ask for hormone tablets that can delay a period.

Thanks Total - will suggest that to her.

My GP said that if you just start the next pack of pills without having a break, it works for some, but not others.
Might be worth a try.

Yes if she's on the pill she can just start new pack without a break that should stop her period. If she's not already on the pill then second going to GP there is something they can give you that will do it

Both suggestions absolutely correct, though I hope she's on the pill as I wonder whether a GP will prescribe hormones to delay a period just for a first dirty weekend with new bf?

I think you have to take them at least 4-5 days before your period so she needs to hurry!

TheMoistWorldOfSeptimusQuench · 21/08/2007 09:01

She's not on the pill unfortunately! And I expect the GP is likely to give her short shrift as forty says - but worth a try I guess

Thanks all

GP will not give her short shrift for asking this - it is a very common thing for them to be asked about! And your friend does not need to disclose why exactly she wants to do this!

It may, though, be too late - I think the hormone-related medication has to be started a bit earlier. Still worth asking though!

The pill is called Norethisterone. She needs to be quick IIRC you have to take it 5 days before your period is due.

Thanks everyone - texted her this morning & she said you are all wonderful & your knowledge knows no bounds, however, she thinks it's too late & she just going to let nature take it's course - on the posh towels if necessary.

I'm so happy for her - she's a lone parent like me & has been waiting for this guy for a long time
