Worried about dds prolonged period

She’s 25, basically always had irregular periods. She once went nearly a year without one. She’s now been bleeding for 8 weeks non stop. doctors referred her for an ultrasound, but she’s been waiting 3 weeks now. Dds worried sick it’s something serious but doctor wasn’t too concerned, said it probably polycystic ovaries. But she’s so fed up but it’s the worry more than anything, We just want reassurance.

Anyone had similar or could put our minds at rest? Just got a feeling it’ll be after Christmas till she’s seen now.

At her age it is highly highly unlikely to be anything serious. With regards to anything serious I would guess you're/she's worried about endometrial cancer - this would be EXTREMELY rare in a someone her age. The rate is 0.7/100,000 women at her age - so a risk of 0.0007% of her having this cancer. If it helps I waited 3 weeks for an urgent scan. Xx

Thank you for responding lumpy76, yes this is what I keep telling her, she’s so young.

Simailar age to your dd and I have been known to have periods go on for at least a month.

I went to the go who said it sounded like PCOS but advised not to go to tests until you wanted a family. Anyway they put me on a drug which stopped AF and basically reset my system. Sorry can't remember what the drug was called.

I had this for about 4 months when I was about 19. Was very draining!
Had all the tests done and they found nothing! They put it down to some kind of hormonal imbalance.
