Has anyone dealt with this in a fairly young person? My husband is 42 and the thoracic consultant thinks this may be what he has. I have terrified myself googling the prognosis.

Is it idiopathic? The British lung foundation had an IPF support officer a couple of years back (haven't had contact in a few years so not sure if she's still there) so it might be worth contacting them.

If you haven't yet, you should ask about seeing the physiotherapy team and you'll hopefully have access to a nurse specialist who will be able to answer questions you might have. The Irish support group has some excellent resources - www.ilfa.ie when you're ready to get more information (and you have a clear diagnosis).
