Which HPV vaccine?

Adult ds is eligible for the NHS HPV vaccine.

The NHS and Boots offer different vaccines.

NHS:
^Gardasil protects against 4 types of HPV: 6, 11, 16 and 18. Between them, types 16 and 18 are the cause of most cervical cancers in the UK (more than 70%).
These types of HPV also cause some anal and genital cancers, and some cancers of the head and neck.^ (From the NHS website)

Boots:
^Our new service offers protection against nine HPV types (types 6, 11, 16, 18, 31, 33, 45, 52 and 58), and so helps protect against the virus types responsible for:
• 90% of cervical, 85-90% of vulvar and 80-85% of vaginal HPV related cancers in women
• 90% of HPV related anal cancers in men and women
• 90% of genital warts in men and women^

Is the Boots vaccine worth the nearly £500 cost? If ds wasn't eligible to get the vaccine on the NHS, I wouldn't hesitate to pay for him to have the Boots one.

Hmm Gardisil is the one that I've been told is the best one - but info may of changed, the boots one doesn't seem to give a name? Maybe ask for more info? I paid privately for Gardisil as I was too old for the free one, I had an HPV screening beforehand to make sure I had no HPV and the vaccine would be effective, I'd say though years later I have had a abnormal smear and HPV found so we should all remember this vaccines against common types but we still need to be checked when appropriate... I know not quite the same for boys as they don't have smears!

Ah yeh so it's the more advanced version I guess that protects against more strains ... the most dangerous are 16 and 18, 11 and 6 I think are the ones that protect against warts - but any additional protection must be a bonus!
