Wisdom tooth extraction - when will I feel better!

Had 2 wisdom teeth extracted on Tuesday, one is fine but the bottom one is sooo painful. I saw a dentist today but I couldn't open my mouth enough for her to really see what was going on. She's given me a prescription for metronidazole and amoxicillin and said that should hopefully sort it but I'm in so much pain it's making me feel miserable. I'm taking co-codamol and ibuprofen and I've got an ice pack - is there anything else I can do? Has anyone else had this before, how long did it take to feel better?

Ahh OP, sounds like dry socket which is agony. She’s done the right thing with the double antibiotics but quite often they also pack the hole with a medicated dressing for some relief! Honestly, the packing was immediate relief for me. Please go back & ask for it if it’s unbearable! There will be emergency dentists available over the weekend!

Mine felt better after 3/4 days.. was very vigilant with salt washing, antibiotics & I only really ate soup to avoid debris going in the hole (consider it a pre-Christmas diet 😂).. could also go for ice cream as cooling! Painkiller wise you seem to be doing the most you can unless you can get a dentist to prescribe you something stronger!

I hope it feels better soon, I remember how painful it was well! Sad

I had mine out, and the healing of the tooth extraction was less painful than the toothache that precedes it but that's not saying much! It took a couple of weeks before I was capable again.

I hear dry socket is agony so get that seen to further - if you can't get to the dentist fast enough get to a late phadmacy tonight and ask if there's anything they can do for you.

They were going to put a dressing on but I couldn't open my mouth enough for them to even see it let alone get anything in there. My face is a bit less red and hot so hopefully the antibiotics are starting to do something but I think I might be in for another poor nights sleep due to pain Sad

Had 4 removed under a general as were impacted. Took time for swelling and pain to go

Someone on here had dry socket recently i was following her thread. Her advice was to go to A&E if you can't get the pain under control.
