First cold sore

Why would I suddenly get my first ever cold sore at the age of 32? I assumed I didn't carry the virus. It's really sore as well any tips?

I think most people carry the virus without realizing tbh - you can get them anytime - out of my 4 best friends in the only one who has never had a cold sore but I'm aware that doesn't mean I don't have it because it could pop up anytime, it's usually stress/ run down that might activate the virus!

You can catch it as an adult. I got my first at 21 and was ill for a fortnight x

I'm not sure how I would have caught it though tbh. My husband has never had a cold sore either.
I do have a bad cold just now.
I'm feeling a bit upset about it as I'd been kissing my son until I realised what it was - he's 3yo Sad

Many of us carry the virus and have never knowingly had a primary infection, in other words you might have had it for years or , indeed, your husband might have done. It is more likely that you re the carrier as often a first attack makes one feel very unwell with generalised viral type symptoms.

Buy aciclovir cream and use frequently; also keep it in hand for next time ( if there is one) to start as soon as symptoms start.

My mum did sometimes get cold sores when I was a child but she was very careful when she felt one coming on. I wonder if I've been carrying it since then and it's just come out now.
I just thought it was a spot until it really started hurting yesterday so I've not been careful at all Sad
I was looking after my baby niece on Tuesday (9mo) I really hope I've not spread it to her too.

Disgusting update. The 'cold sore' has been agony, so sore I've had to take painkillers so was convinced that's what it was.
Anyway, last night I accidentally caught the top of it and pus came out Envy(not envy) so I assume it actually must be a spot. It's not as sore today thankfully.

It might still be. I get a bit of funk in mine sometimes. They are so painful but ice helps followed by the cream and the blister patches overnight really speed up healing

Boooo. I read online that the fluid in cold sores was clear Sad
