Has anyone successfully conquered lip biting?

I've been doing it for as long as I can remember. I remember being quite young, maybe 6,and my mum took me to the GP about it. I just cannot seem to stop. I know I shouldn't do it, I know it really impacts on how my face looks, and yet I still do it.

Can anyone help?!

(Also I'm allergic to lanolin which is in a lot of lip products so this also impacts what I can use to combat the dryness).

Try Hurraw lip balms, i'm not sure if you mean the same thing I do, as soon as my lips are dry I bite off the skin (gross I know but i cant help myself) and end up pulling huge bits off and making them bleed and sting for ages and that lip balm was the only one that ever made my lips completely soft and when they're soft I don't have the urge to bite.

Use the Moon balm at night and then whichever one you want during the day, they're expensive but are the only lip balm I've ever used that doesn't make my lips feel worse after they've worn off.

Try using a lip scrub alongside as well, I'm using the Elf one from superdrug.

Thanks nekoshiro that's really helpful. I do mean exactly that, biting off big chunks, like in flakes, so that they bleed and look terrible. I've not heard of those products so will look into them, thank you!

Oh god OP, I'm doing it right now! I've tried everything. Vaseline, lollipops, even chewing on straws and various other plastic things. Nothing works. I've tried aversion therapy, distraction techniques, mindfulness...

I do it when I'm concentrating or when I'm thinking - which is most of the time really.

My poor lips are always agony.

I'm the exact same! Everything I use makes it worse and I can't even wear lipstick or my lips are agony after. Sometimes when they're really sore a decent unscented handlotion is better than balm but nothing works long-term x

I am the same.

If I use lip balm I just wipe it off so I can pick or bite them again.

I go through stages though, so sometimes I can control it well and my lips look good, but any stress and I butcher them. I just started a new job so they are currently getting bit to bits.

I enjoy that feeling of ripping chunks off, until the soreness sets in. I have done it since I was a child too.

This is not thrilling me with inspiration! Although I'm glad to know I'm not alone.

nekoshiro my hurraw lip balms came yesterday and I have to say I am SO SO impressed so far!! They've left my lips soft after use like you said and I've done quite well on not biting today. Not perfect. But a good start.
