Flucloxicillin NEVER AGAIN

Shittyshittybangbang2019 · 04/11/2019 19:10

Since taking a short course of flucloxicillin I’ve had so many problems. First mucus from my behind, followed by mucus and blood. Docs examined me and found internal piles which had been irritated by the constant diarrhea I’ve had since a week after the course was finished.

I wish I had known this before hand as the thing I had the antibiotics for was much less invasive than the trouble I’m having now. Has anyone else been effected by them like this?

No, I've just finished a double course of them and been fine.
Well, I say fine. They didn't work. But no side effects that I noticed.
Get well soon OP, sorry you are going through this.

I had a course seveal years ago and had to stop because of bloody diarrhea, also felt incredibly sick on them, its now on my records to not prescribe it.

AgnesNaismith · 06/11/2019 11:56

I had a 500mg course of these three weeks ago for 7 days. I’ve never felt so out of it, sick, tired and dizzy most of the time Envy

Didn’t have the mucus and blood though, that sounds a bit concerning and don’t remember it being on the list of side effects - what did your dr say about it?

I have microscopic colitis, which causes an inflamed bowel and diarrhoea, and a friend suggested that I try aloe vera juice (alongside my other medication), to help reduce the inflammation, and it has really helped me - and I wonder if it might help you get over the side effects of the flucloxocilin, @Shittyshittybangbang2019? It might be worth taking a good quality probiotic too.

The aloe vera juice does taste vile, but is OK if you have it in ribena or fruit juice.

I've never understood people who actively want to be prescribed antibiotics. Hope your arse gets better soon OP.

Geekster1963 · 06/11/2019 12:42

I've had several courses of Flucloxacillin this year, and never had any problems with them. Certainly not like you describe. It sounds horrible I hope you feel better soon.

ShittyShittyBangBang2019 · 06/11/2019 23:49

@AgnesNaismith doctor said straight away that it was the antibiotics. Then she showed me the side effects on nhs website stating blood and mucus as a serious side effect. It also says that these side effects could present up to 2 months after the course is finished. Wish I had known this before!! I have severe health anxiety and I’m worrying constantly which is probably making it even worse

Hi I hope you see this even though you posted it years ago! I'm having the exact same symptoms from taking Flucloxicillin. I've had to send samples after seeing a Dr cos I've been so worried about what this has been. I'm also 4 weeks postpartum so wasn't sure if that was linked. What did you do to stop your symptoms? Did you see a Dr too?
