Passing full mucus stool

Hi, need some advice before I phone NHS24 as obviously the weekend is approaching and my GP surgery will be closed till Monday...

Since this morning I have had strong urge to have a bowel movement and when I do all that comes out is mucus. It has happened about 5 times now and I feel incredibly crampy, then need to run to the toilet and all that passes is a yellow/brown mucus, absolutely no solid mass and it appears like jelly/like snot out of your nose.

Sorry for the TMI, but there is quite a lot of it and no smell to it.

I can't work out why this is happening, and when I google I can't find an answer. All I can find information on is stools with slight mucus etc, not full mucus like I am experiencing.

I feel okay in myself and haven't had any vomiting, I do have a chest infection/bad cough but don't think these could be related. Just cramping/ache and then passing mucus, I also have constant sensation down there like a heaviness when you have a bug maybe.

Any advice would be much appreciated or even what I can take to make this stop/reduce as I feel phoning NHS24 is a little unnecessary at this stage and would like to try treat at home if I can wait till Monday to see GP.

When was your last normal bowel movement?

ViaSacra · 01/11/2019 19:18

And do you have cramp-like pains constantly, or just when this urge to do a bowel movement comes on?

Vintagegoth · 01/11/2019 19:24

Sometimes this can be a symptom of constipation. When did you last go?

Seeline · 01/11/2019 19:24

Are you on antibiotics for the chest infection? They can do really weird things to your digestion system.

Hi thanks for your responses everyone, my last normal bowel movement was yesterday I think.

I am not on any antibiotics for the chest infection as or even able to take much medicine as I am currently breastfeeding, the GP just prescribed simple linctus which Ive taken a few times but it's too gentle.

I have not long passed a bowel movement again and there was actually a small solid mass and looked normal but it was surrounded with lots of mucus.

I have ulcerative colitis and this is a symptom of that and Crohns. Although it does seem rather sudden to be only mucous if you've never had anything like that before? I vaguely remember my symptoms starting as mucousy poo.

I had a bacterial infection that was just like this. Went on for a good few days. Rang GP and they requested sample and ended up prescribing something - can’t remember what though.

Thanks @WeeDangerousSpike @greenflamingo

Will get to the GP on Monday if it hasn't stopped by then.

Thanks for your replies

@webster144 I know this was ages ago but what happened after this? Did it resolve itself ?
