Chronic pain - what medication are you on?

I'm ready to go to my GP and threaten to kill myself if they don't give me something. I am taking paracetamol, sometimes I get cocodomal OTC. It's not really helping. GP gives me antidepressants. Despite what I just said I'm not actually suicidal, I'm just really fed up.

Ask to be referred to a pain team. I’m being stopped from taking medication I’ve been on for 20 plus years because all of a sudden it’s not suitable but there is no alternative. I literally feel your pain.

Sorry to hear that Pas. Did the medication stop working for you, or what was the reason that they stopped it? I hope they find you a new one soon. I will ask about a referral to a pain team, thank you.

I'm on 10 mg of amitriptyline for fibromyalgia. That really helps me x

I also take amitriptyline at night. I am prescribed codeine but I'm not sure it actually helps.

I'm limited in my pain relief due to reflux issues but do have naproxen every now and again.

Tram afoul was fab but the gastric consultant said no.

I'm another who can't really take NSAIDs too often as of a hernia and GERD. They tried me on Amatryptaline for pain and sleep. Got nowhere. Was on Lyrica for years but that just fckd with my head.

Currently on a mix (not at the same time like, lower dose or higher dose depending) of Solpadine/Solpadol.

For fibromyalgia and joint pain I take.. cocodamol (the strong prescription only ones), gabapentin, and then amitryptiline at night. Plus omeprazole to protect my stomach. I sometimes don’t think it’s helping, I still get a lot of pain, but I’m definitely worse without them.

@Redannie118 I have been diagnosed with eds and fibromyalgia. Because of hypermobility I have arthritis in some places, wear and tear in different bones, disc misalignment in cervical spine (which may be causing nerve damage).

Like other posters I also have acid reflux so can't really take nsaids.

So I think it's joint and nerve pain.

It seems people with similar problems to me are all getting prescribed stuff. What am I doing wrong? Or can you get these things OTC?

Fibro doesn't really respond to NSAIDs anyway, in my experience, I also have fibromyalgia.

I take amitriptyline (?) at night, it enables my muscles to relax enough for something resembling sleep. I generally just take paracetamol, I dislike codeine as it makes me constipated and also don't want to become dependant on it. I've been known to take nefopam too but if makes me feel sick so I limit those

I’ve had all sorts because I’ve had periods of chronic pain. Previously I’ve had paracetamol, codeine, pregablin and then gabapantin. Currently recovering from bulging discs in my neck, I was on codeine which was helping a bit. Then I was put on Amitriptyline to prevent migraines and it’s helped the neck pain too.

I would go back and ask for a referral to the chronic pain team locally to find the right drugs and treatment for you.

I take cocodamol 30 /500 mg up to 8 a day. I take pregabalin for anxiety but it helps with my nerve pain too. My vertebrae is grinding and my sciatica has gotten worse so I have seen the consultant and am waiting for an appointment for an mri scan so he can determine the best course of action.

I have psoriatic and rheumatoid arthritis and Sjögren's syndrome and am waiting for knee replacements. I take 100m amitriptaline and two dihydracodeine at bedtime. It helps but not much.

Gabapentin and pregabalin are good for "nerve" pain

Had really terrible pain a few months ago. MRI showed spinal stenosis from bulging discs and nerve impingement. I have never had pain like it .
So l had Gabapentin, Voltarol, Co codamol, Tramadol , Zacin cream, tried Amitriptyline as well but it made me feel suicidal. I had to take it for months, l also had physio. I am pleased to say l have been able to cut them out now and just take 2 x Paracetamol & 2 x Ibuprofen twice a day and l can manage on this.
I was very reluctant to take the pain relief, l was afraid of getting addicted but my physio made me see sense and l took it all in the end. l was like a zombie mind but it worked! Go and see your Gp and get some proper medication OP.

Pain clinic referral asap. Really helpful. Have you thought about reflexology to help with the pain?

Is nerve pain not the right thing to call it? I just assumed as they said some of the problems with my arms/shoulders may be from where the disc misalignment is causing damage to the nerves.

What are the side effects of Pregabalin?
I'm currently on Gabapentin but think it's making me go mad!!
