Thick womb lining questions and GA

Just been back to gynae this morning with results of a biopsy on my womb lining taken four weeks ago.
The sample wasn't enough as far as I can gather and so I am scheduled in for 4th December for a d&c and another biopsy.
I had same procedure done two years ago as I had a thickened uterine lining then also. All was fine after and I was dismissed at that time with no follow up. It was only as I requested a private ultrasound at my doctors as I had stomach pains that the thickened uterine lining was found again for a second time so I was referred to gynae.
I don't understand how the lining remains thickened but I have no periods I'm 51 and the gynaecologist today said there is no cancer but they need to do a d&c and a biopsy again to get a better sample. She also said I will be brought back after to discuss results and whether a mirena coil should be fitted as it thins out the lining and would stay in for five years.
The other option she said is major surgery with risks as it would mean a hysterectomy.
The cells could change she said when it's thickened and the rest went over my head as I was anxious.
Anyone have similar and had reoccurring thickness of uterine lining?
