Feels like labour in anus!

Has anyone had this?

Where inside your anus goes really tight and has quite an intense pain/burning? It really does feel like a powerful contraction.
This happens to me every now and then, and I think only in my sleep. It normally goes off 2-15 minutes and pain totally disappears!

Happens to me sometimes too, seems to be connected to my period. I believe on MN it's referred to as "javelin arse".

banivani · 24/10/2019 13:53

Are we talking about proctaglia fugax?

SleepyKat · 24/10/2019 13:55

I get javelin arse. Possibly too much info but I find that gritting my teeth and pushing past the pain to force a fart out knocks the spasm on the head. Easier said than done as sometimes my body doesn’t want to cooperate.

InkyFANGERSInkyFace · 24/10/2019 13:58

Sounds similar to what I'm getting since yesterday, TMI but I'm constipated and until last night I hadn't gone in four or so days, haven't managed to go properly but the pain is like having a red hot needle jammed up my butthole and makes me tense it funny

cheesecadet · 24/10/2019 17:36

Seems quite common then. Mine is nothing to do with my period or needing a poo!

Not sure why it's referred to as Javelin Arse?!!! But thanks for the replies.

I get these in my vagina and my bum, mostly when I was pregnant but a few times since as well. I've heard the vagina ones being called fanny daggers but never heard of the javelin arse nickname haha. I do know they are common as most of my friends who've had children have experienced them.

frankiefirstyear · 24/10/2019 17:52

I get this!!

twilightcafe · 24/10/2019 17:56

I get this. 😳
Tends to be just before my period is due.

CottonHeadedNinyMuggins · 24/10/2019 18:03

Javelin arse because it feels like a javelin is being shoved up well.. Your arse 😂

When I usually get it its period time, but I have noticed it at other times when not on recently

cheesecadet · 24/10/2019 18:48

I wouldn't say it's like a javelin being shoved up your arse, more like a football!

I find sitting on a hot water bottle relieves it. I don't get it so much now I am retired so I am guessing its stress related?

Lyingonthesofainthedark · 27/10/2019 15:32

I used to have this occasionally, in the years when I had had a baby, including by caesarean. I don't any more and haven't for at least a decade.

Anxious256 · 29/10/2019 03:10

Where period related could be endo

goingtotown · 29/10/2019 22:21

It’s a muscle spasm in the rectum that usually comes at night. Very painful but harmless. Proctaglia Fugax is the medical name.

cheesecadet · 30/10/2019 10:02

@goingtotown that's helpful thank you.
