Does anyone else have something similar? Is there a cause? It's not a recent thing.

Been cooking so please excuse very unwhite nail.

I have these I don't know what causes it - I do bite my nails tho

Wallywobbles · 23/10/2019 20:50

Never bitten nails so I think you are safe there.

I wondered if it's a vitamin deficiency or something. I eat a pretty good (if excessive) diet so it seems unlikely.

Vitamin deficiency or damage to the nail bed growing out?

Wallywobbles · 23/10/2019 20:53

Dr Google says:

Medical name: Pitting

Pitted nails*
If you have dents in your nails that look like they were made by an icepick, this could be a sign that you have a disease that affects your entire body.

People who have pits in their nails may have:
â—¦ Psoriasis
â—¦ Atopic dermatitis
â—¦ Alopecia areata

But I'm pretty certain I have none of the above.

@Elieza I've had it for years I think. Not really sure but it's definitely had time to grow out multiple times.

Pits can be nail. Psoriasis.... I had it for years before I got psoriasis

Wallywobbles · 23/10/2019 21:04

Mmm. Well that's a bummer. What can you do in advance of it showing up elsewhere?

OP posts:
PearlsBeforeWine · 23/10/2019 23:07

Take probiotics, eat clean, manage stress,. Stay on top of dental and mental health.

PearlsBeforeWine · 23/10/2019 23:08

I had 2 pitted nails from 12 and developed psoriasis ar 35.

BusterGonad · 24/10/2019 07:21

I get pits in my nails, when I was tee

BusterGonad · 24/10/2019 07:23

Sorry, somehow it posted!
Anyway, when I was a teenager I had a terribly pitted nail that also went green! Envy how I get pits and white marks as well as ridges BUT my nails are incredibly strong and grow so fast so it's not all bad!
I do think it could be psoriasis as I have this on my elbows and have suffered from eczema all my life!

Wallywobbles · 24/10/2019 22:16

Thanks @PearlsBeforeWine. I have IBS do probiotics are an issue. Currently make kefir but it really makes me constipated. I'll have to push through I guess!!

Currently trying to loose weight so eating very clean.

Thanks all x

Is it just down the middle on your nail op?

www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC4763640/

See what you think of this. I had convinced myself I had beau’s lines and some kind of chronic systemic disease but read this and realised I am a habitual picker oops Blush

Also have raynaud’s so maybe I can blame that. I did go to my Gp before I found this and they were happy to check my bloods for ferritin/b12/folate/thyroid etc and did talk about single nail psoriasis which didn’t seem the most likely cause to me.

I can’t see your pic clearly enough to say it defo looks like this but thought I’d mention it because I’ve had a ridged and pitted thumb for years and no one could ever tell me what it was.

Wallywobbles · 26/10/2019 21:49

Thanks @Funbun32 I don't that's me. I think it's going to turn out to be psoriasis judging by the pics. It's two lines of mini dents or pits down the centre of my nail from moon to tip. Both nails are affected, one more obviously than the other.

The Nhs has a nail check thing so see if it matches
