Thyroid help

Hi all,

I have just had a very frustrating visit to a GP who has decided to ignore a recommendation from a Consultant I was referred to for a history of heavy bleeding during my monthly cycle.
The consultant gynae recommended that I also have my thyroid antibodies and thyroid levels redone (which came back as normal last time in June).
I took this letter from the consultant, which was addressed to the surgery, with me to the appointment, and have just been told that they won't retest them, and that the consultant is not an endicrinologist! What!! I'm so confused, as the letter says that my symptoms could be due to an underlying thyroid issue. I also have put on weight and suffer badly from tiredness. Anyway, I have put in a call to the GP who gave me the original referral but other than go private is there anything anyone can suggest I do??
TIA

Sorry, I forgot to mention: I have a strong family history of thyroid problems, which it clearly says in the letter.
