Breast lump

I found a breast lump a few weeks' ago, saw my GP and have been referred on the 2-week pathway (as expected). I am pretty sure my lump is benign as it seemed to appear overnight and is the size of a large grape/small plum plus although it's quite hard, it's smooth and seems to be mobile. Unfortunately my GP sat on the fence which has got me worried. I know the vast majority of lumps are benign and I know that I will find out soon enough but this is a worrying time and I would be interested in other breast lump experiences and subsequent diagnosis. Hiya- I am 46 and am going thru the same thing so could have written your post. I have one very lumpy breast & doc found a lump. I am not sure if it’s new or not which is making me quite stressed too

I’ve had two lumps referred to breast clinic at local hospital - both times GP said she was pretty sure it was a cyst but they refer any lump to the clinic. She also said not to worry that it’s on the 2-week pathway - standard for all breast lumps. I was very worried (I’m not great with health stuff!) but both were just cysts.

Mine isn’t mobile which is what worried me but does feel kind of squidgy?

Just to add, not sure if it’s the same everywhere but in our local breast clinic you get results on the day. First a consultant examines you, and marks any lumps, then you go through for ultrasound scan and if it’s a cyst they can drain it there and then. They told me I had “very cysty” breasts

Sorry you're going through the same Everything. It's going to be a looong 2 weeks. I had hoped my GP would have reassured me like yours did Amazing but he just stayed silent when I said I wasn't particularly worried, which of course has now got me worried! It's good to know that I should get any results on the same day as my appointment with the breast clinic. I don't think I could cope with any more waiting...

I found a lump aged 47 too. Back in January this year. I've never ever had anything like it before and I was terrified. Stayed up all night panicking and crying. Couldn't call the doctor as it was a Sunday!

It was a small, smooth lump that felt mobile. I called my doctor and over the phone she booked me in but said ' I can tell you now with some certainty that what you're describing to me is a fibroadenoma so calm down and google that!'

Anyway I saw her that afternoon and she felt it and said she wasn't concerned but she'd refer me as they do everyone, regardless of what she felt it was. She also told me she knows when she is feeling something suspicious and this wasn't it. She was reassuring enough that I cancelled my private appointment that I had booked for the next day which would have cost me £££

I saw the breast clinic about 8 days later. Lump still there but upon having the ultrasound, the doctor just looked a bit confused, said ' oh it's nothing' and that was that. I asked if it was a fibroadenoma and she said ' no it's just a nothing' so umm that's good then!

It went away after a few months but after that appointment I stopped feeling for it every ten minutes and relaxed a bit.

Yours sounds very much like mine did doesn't it?

I've had a fibroadenoma and been to the clinic, they did say smooth and Mobile is good, fibroadenomas are marble like, I think cysts would be a bit squishy as they are filled with fluid obviously- fibroadenomas they need to do a biopsy usually because they look solid on a ultrasound and cysts they can see straight away are liquid. I was told sinister stuff is rough rough the edges not moveable and rock hard usually... xx

I can feel a few now in my breast like lots of squidgy marbles? Am on day 17 of my cycle so not sure if that impacting or my constant prodding about too. I gave one at the top of my breast that also feels squishy but immovable - am hoping it’s all fybrocystic stuff tbh

This happened to me last December. Lump was exactly as you describe yours is. It was a fibroadenoma, benign. They did everything at the breast clinic including a core needle biopsy but all came back clear. It was a long stressful wait. I'm glad I'm not going through that again. Sending hugs x

Thanks you so much for this. You have confirmed what I have been thinking - that it is most likely a benign lump. I just want a definitive answer now so I can stop with all the little niggling 'what ifs'...

@Lauresbadhairday I have spent all week since seeing the doc prodding about & I feel the same as you. I do think mine is linked to my cycle as I have loads of lumps that are bigger in the 10 days up to my cycle. I really hope that mine is benign too 🙏🏻

Hi. I've found a lump in each breast. Doc had referred me today under the two week wait. She says she doesn't think it's anything sinister but she's not an expert.

Mum has Stage 1/2 invasive ductal cell carcinoma (but she's a very heavy smoker).

Can't help being worried but I suppose it's best trying not to until the appointment.

I keep prodding and poking too @Everythingnotsavedwillbelost! Sorry you're going through this too @iklboo. I'm trying hard not to worry but finding it quite difficult. My appointment is next week so I will report back. Fingers crossed to all who are going through this

I had breast cancer 3 years ago - my lump was smooth and felt a bit like a kidney bean and felt mobile. Doctor thought it was a fibroadenoma but still referred me and it turned out to be cancer. Still can't believe it most days tbh!

However after the full course of chemo, surgery and radio, I am still here and absolutely fine at the moment and getting on with my life

You are in the best possible position right now, having found the lump and having it investigated. The overwhelming odds (90% I believe) are that it's nothing sinister, but if it is, it's absolutely treatable. All the best to you xxx

I had my appointment today and thankfully my lump is a benign cyst which the doctor drained there and then. Apparently I have several smaller cysts on both breasts but they are nothing to worry about. Thank you to everyone who responded to this thread and reassured me prior to the appointment. It certainly helped with the waiting. Wishing much luck to all going through this especially @Everythingnotsavedwillbelost and @iklboo

@Lauresbadhairday that’s great news! You must be so relieved! My appt is on Monday & my anxiety & worry is thru the roof - trying to be positive!
Anything you can tell us from the appointment that will help? Be interesting to hear what happened...

@Everythingnotsavedwillbelost - I saw the consultant first who asked me a few questions whilst I was lying there with only a thin sheet covering my breasts which was a bit awkward, he then examined me and sent me for a mammogram which was uncomfortable as I am tall and quite small busted so didn't really 'fit' the machine but it wasn't painful. I saw a different doctor for an ultrasound scan and she saw that it was a cyst so drained it there and then which was surprisingly not at all painful (I find having blood taken more painful). I then had to wait another 40 mins to see consultant again to confirm it was a cyst and to give me a leaflet! All in all I was there for over 2 hours and there was lots of waiting around so take a book/phone/friend. The best bit about the experience (other than the good news of course) is that the mammographer called me 'young'. I haven't been called 'young ' in years! Wishing you lots of luck and best wishes
