Antibiotics and upset bowels

Does the way in which antibiotics are 'delivered' affect the bowels? Are IV antibiotics more tolerable than oral abs?

This year 16yo ds has had a lot of antibiotics. The heftiest doses have been by IV, and did not upset his stomach. Oral antibiotics sometimes upset his stomach a little, but only for the duration of the treatment - his digestion bounced back very quickly.

His most recent abs (IV temocillin, followed by two doses of fosfomycin three days apart) have resulted in diarrhoea that still hasn't cleared up after a week. He is otherwise well, just tired. He is taking probiotics.
