Possible lymphoma 😭

I know I shouldn't have posted in here but anything to put my brain at rest would be very helpful 😢 I have posted the same thing in "children's health" but my posts there usually go unanswered so here for traffic

Sorry for the long post but by the time I'll get access to my GP, Google will probably kill me 😭

DS is 4 and he got some runny nose, probably cold last week. Still on , yesterday he was coughing a little so I checked his throat for tonsillitis. He gets tonsillitis every winter so I'm expecting it any day. When checking for tonsils, I observed that DS's Right tonsil is enlarged, maybe 2 cm in diameter. He had a long episode of tonsillitis in the last winter which was still there till February, and I remember when I went to GP in February for DS's checkup the GP said that DS's right tonsil is enlarged than the left one. It didn't click me much back then because I was in the impression that the asymmetry is due to his ongoing episode of tonsillitis but now that's I have Googled it and it came in throat cancer, lymphoma 😭 I just can't stop panicking and I'm literally losing myself RN.

Please please can anyone share anything positive here, I just can't stop worrying about it 😭

Surely if he is only 4 and had had lymphoma since last Winter, he would by now be very seriously ill indeed and would have had months of repeated ill health?

Can he get tonsillitis in one tonsil? As he's coughing and got cold I'm thinking he's about to get an infection?

Please try not to worry (I know that's easier said than done!) We went through similar. It turned out to be reactive lymph nodes. The hospital checked every single gland and lymph node for swelling and said if it was lymphoma that others would be swollen too. In the end my DS had his tonsils out and they had a good check in that area while operating but it was an awful time. The main things said to us to keep an eye out for were severe night sweats, other glands becoming swollen so to check armpits, groin and collar bone, and weight loss. Keep on at the GPs if you're worried, I hope your DS is ok

My son had his tonsils out 3 years ago aged 7 as he had one enlarged tonsil picked up in an appointment for something else. He did not have a history of tonsillitis.

He was referred to ENT and had his tonsils removed for biopsy 2 weeks later. We had the all clear about a week later. His enlarged tonsil was very big but they found no reason for it.

Many years ago one of my boys had one enlarged tonsil. They were removed for biopsy and came back all clear. The size difference was very noticeable too. I had not actually been all that worried about it at the time as the my GP do not seem overly concerned, but it was before the days of having google at my fingertips. But I do understand now that things are different and we are so much more aware of what our symptoms can mean. I'm sure they would be referring urgently if they were very worried.

Can anyone help me here with the time line of the entire procedure. after how many months/weeks did you get an appointment from ENT and tonsillectomy?

DS was a similar age when we noticed he had one very enlarged tonsil. After a while we took him to the GP and we were referred urgently to the children's hospital to have it looked at. The Consultant took one look and told us there was absolutely nothing to worry about. 4 years later and DS still has one enlarged tonsil but is absolutely fine.

Please try not to worry. The Consultant said they'd be looking for other red flags as well as the enlarged tonsil.

My son had a really nasty bout of tonsillitis when he was 2. One of his tonsils never ever went back to normal size. The consultant said it was scarred.

Hi we waited around 2 weeks for the initial ENT appointment an the operation was done within 2 weeks. However my son didn't have a history of tonsillitis and as it was not something checked before they did not know how long it had been like it so was referred quickly.

This sounds like a reactive lymph node as he’d been unwell with a cold and prone to tonsillitis. Lymph nodes can stay enlarged for ages afterwards. Let GP have a look.
