Hi I have been feeling awful for months now, moods awful, arms aching, tired, crying for nothing, depression, anxiety, awful anxiety . I’m 47 female. I am trying to get a doctors appointment this week. My depression medication isn’t working. Citralapram. Can I ask for blood tests too? Do you need to ask for certain tests or do they just do so many as standard. I’m fed up feeling like this.

Sounds like classic perimenopausal symptoms.

It started when I was 43. I had no idea it was the perimenopause until I was 47! Even when my GP mentioned it I didn't believe him because I didn't have much hot flushes and I didn't know that so many other, overwhelming symptoms that seem to have nothing to do with periods, can yet be due to the hormones chaos that comes with it.

My experience is that some women experience very few or no symptoms at all during peri, but really struggle once they have been without a period for 12 months, and others are the opposite. I am feeling so much better now that I am officially in the menopause and many of my symptoms, the worse ones, have now gone. HRT didn't work for me, made me much worse, but it is a heaven sent for many, so certainly worth trying it.

Might be also worth exploring thyroid function? Underactive thyroid can have similar symptoms and is often overlooked.
