Not coping with the pain right now

I had a hip replacement this week. Came home yesterday. I’m not coping with the pain tonight. I’ve not done anything to the hip, I forgot to take my pain killers when they were due. Took them once I was in pain and now it’s not under control.

Taken codeine 60mg, paracetamol, ibuprofen and amitripataline (sorry can’t spell it and can’t get the packet). Have an ice pack on one area.

What else can I do?? Is there anything else I can take if we call an out of hours dr??

Please help. Thank you

Call them, you poor thing.

Bluemascara4 · 27/09/2019 22:56

Please call our of hours 111. You poor thing .

Did the pain change suddenly ?

RaymondStopThat · 27/09/2019 22:57

They might give you some oramorph, but think you'd probably have to stop the codeine.

Kummerspeck · 27/09/2019 22:58

There's nothing else you can add from over the counter medicines so, if you really cannot manage, you will need to call out of hours GP.

Painkillers are much more effective if taken regularly so it is worth taking them by the clock

Call either the ward or 111.

I hope it goes very soon.

Walnutwhipster · 27/09/2019 22:59

Call the ward.

RaymondStopThat · 27/09/2019 23:07

I'd be surprised if you have any joy on an acute surgical ward at this time of night. The junior doctor will probably be far too busy to do anything to help sadly (unless you think something is seriously amiss, in which case you need to go to the ED). I'd call 111

Whereabouts is the pain? Are you still wearing the support stockings that were put on after the operation, or were they changed before you were discharged?

Flythedragons · 28/09/2019 00:30

It’s under control now, thank you.

I’ve been taken some more codeine. Probably shouldn’t have, but I was desperate! Will take them by the clock from now on.

I think I spent too long out of bed. Going to take it more easy tomorrow.

Thank you for being there, I didn’t know what to do!

Did you have the op on Monday or Tuesday and were your stockings changed before you were discharged?

I'm asking because of a friend's experience and I wouldn't what happened to her to afflict you.
