In my 2 year old he’s been diagnosed with glue ear but they are not 100% certain on this. They think he’s had it from being a tiny baby. He did not have a hearing test at birth due to being rushed into intensive care. Then needing an operation. So he had a hearing test done when he was 4 months old. He failed and I was made an appointment to come back in 6 months. However he was back in the hospital having another operation at the time of the appointment and he missed it so it was rearranged but he stayed in hospital a long time on machines so could not leave for the hearing test so they told me they would leave it until he was better. So earlier this year he was having another operation and I told the nurses Looking after him how he doesn’t talk and they said they would sort out a hearing test again. So he got the hearing test done a couple of weeks after his operation and he failed again. They wanted to get him hearing aids but then changed their minds to grommets as they said it could just be glue ear. So they think he’s had glue ear from being a 3 month old baby until now and he’s almost 3 years old now..... can that happen or is it likely to be something else?

Yes glue ear can persist for years. It may or may not be this causing the issues for you - the ENT people should be trying to id the cause. In my experience with glue ear they like to watch and wait and ket them grow out of it - i wasn't happy as it can cause lots of speech and language delays so i pushed for more intervention.
