Chronic tonsillitis - what is the cause?

Hi! I'm 24 years old and have had chronic tonsillitis for the last 3 years. The first two years, I used to have tonsillitis 3-4 times a year. But this year, I have had tonsillitis every 2 months.

I'm writing this thread with the hope that someone who has been or who currently is in my situation would be able to help me out in my search to find the cause of my chronic tonsillitis.

If you are reading this and have been/are in this situation, I would like to ask you the following questions:

1- Were you ever told what was causing your chronic tonsillitis (was it a viral infection, a microbial infection or a fungal infection, or something else..)? Did you get a diagnosis?

2- What tests/exams did you have done (blood tests, throat cultures, etc.)? When doing the throat cultures, what did they look for except for Strep & Candida?

3- Did you get your tonsils removed? If so, what are the pros & cons?

Many thanks,

Kate
