Has anybody got a younger DC bigger than their older sibling?

DD1 is 23 months, DD2 is 5.5 months.
DD1's legs, arms and tummy are all smaller than DD2's by 1/4", 1/2" and 2" respectively.

I reckon that by the time they're 1.5 and 3 DD2 will have at least caught up, if not overtaken. Has anybody else experienced this?

I have a friend who's eldest daughter is now a fractionly smaller than her other daughter and there is exactly 2 yrs in age difference. one DD is 9 the other 7. The 7yr old is an average build and she has bigger feet than her sister. Friend was very worried at one point and put eldest daughter through lots of tests but in the end the consultant reckoned she is just going to be small and as she is in proportion not to worry.

startouchedtrinity · 11/08/2007 19:18

Not quite, but ds (14 mo) is nearly the same weight as dd2 (3) and they wear the same size in nappies.

missgriss · 11/08/2007 19:20

No, but I was looking at my DD (15 months) and DS(2.3 years) red books today and DD is the same weight and length as what DS was at 6 months!! If she had been the elder of the two he would have well overtaken her by now.

serenity · 11/08/2007 19:47

DD(3.5) wears 4/5 or 5/6 year clothes, DS2(7 and a total stringbean) is still wearing 5/6 year shorts, pants and t-shirts (6/7 trousers and long sleeve tops because of the arm and leg length) DD is very tall for her age, DS2 is average but skinny with it. Going by the charts in the red book, they will be exactly the same height as adults, so I don't have to worry about DD overtaking DS2

babyblue2 · 11/08/2007 19:49

Not yet, but DD2 (2) is catching up with DD1 (4), she's very slim, but takes after her dad and is very tall. She's already being misktaken for a 3 yr old child but she's only 2.4. People must think she's under developed. Took her to get new shoes and the Clarks lady asked if they were school shoes we were looking for!

AufishFeQueen · 11/08/2007 19:53

Yes, my DS1 (12) is smaller than my DD1 (11). I usually get "are you sure he's older than her" which to be honest really gets on my nerves, its not like I don't know!

Tortington · 11/08/2007 19:56

have boy girl twins. boy was longer and heavier by some way at birth. then dd overtook him when they hit about 2. she has been taller than him by a large margin - around a foot at points. Obviously being a boy and a twin he was very noticable of this and didn't want to be short like me he really got very worried about it and we started to measure his height by notching the wood in the door post when he was 12. We did this to show him that he was indeed growing and he wasn't going to remain the same ehight - this worried him.

he is now 14 and its incredible. he is the same height as his sister and overjoyed so much that he is so much more taller than me. He is now secure in the knowledge that he will grow quite a lot becuase he can see the incredible progress he has made from the notches on the door.

LadyVictoriaOfCake · 11/08/2007 19:58

there are two and a hlaf years between dd1+2. dd2 is the same height as dd1. soon she will actually overtake.

Gobbledigook · 11/08/2007 20:00

Ds1 is 6.5 and ds2 is 4.9 and they are both the same size. I've just bought all their school uniform in the same size and they are in the same size shoes.

Ds2 will overtake soon! Ds1 is much skinnier too.

Gobbledigook · 11/08/2007 20:01

And my niece towers over ds1 - she looks about 8 and wears age 7-8 clothes at least. She is 5.9.

madmumof5 · 11/08/2007 20:04

my ds is 4 and other ds is 2 and a half and the younger one is taller

CarGirl · 11/08/2007 20:10

dd1 is on the 25th centile for her height dd2 is on the 98th!!!!!!!!!!!!! It's only the 5.5 year gap which keeps dd1 taller, it's only going to be a few years until she catches up even though dd2 has only just turned 5. In fact dd1 is going to end up the shortest of all of them as the younger 2 are also on higher centiles for height!

nooka · 11/08/2007 20:19

My ds (8) is still just holding his own height wise over dd (almost 7), but in smaller clothes sizes - I'm guessing that boys are usually taller than girls so the girls sizes are actually smaller than the boys (he is in size 8, and she is in size 9). Weight wise they are pretty much the same, and have been for years, as ds is skinny. dd's feet are also bigger (but only by half a size). We did height predictions for them which came out at 6'1" for both of them (granted they aren't very accurate). I am sure that dd will soon overtake ds as girls seem to do their growth spurt earlier than boys.

IdrisTheDragon · 11/08/2007 20:23

Not in height, but DD (22 months and 28lb) is catching up with DS (3.8 and 32lb).

He is slender. She is solid .

IdrisTheDragon · 11/08/2007 20:25

They quite often wear similar sized clothes (although different ones ).

DS has some 18-24 month clothes that still fit and DD has some 2-3 that are getting a bit small .

IdrisTheDragon · 11/08/2007 20:27

They are both on 75 centile for height, although DS is on 25th for weight and DD is on 91st (explains the slender and solid I suppose).

Will stop posting small posts as they come to me on this topic now .

whoops · 11/08/2007 20:30

I quite often get asked if ds (5) and dd (3) are twins! they are about the same size but the ds didn't have the head start dd did! He only weighed 2lb 15oz at birth where she was 10lb 5oz ds was over 6 months old by the time he reached that weight!

MoosMa · 12/08/2007 20:10

I'm glad I'm not the only one then, it will interesting to see if DD2 slims down when she gets active. She's a bit of a bumbo-potato at the moment

I am pretty sure that dd (16m) is heavier than ds (3) at the moment - i have not weighed her since she was 13 m and she was around 3olbs then and off the charts. They are both tall and well built but ds is skinny. I am still waiting for dd to slim down. I would not be surprised if she was taller than him at some stage - but I imagine he will be taller in the end.

But saying that I am taller than dh so maybe we will be a family of amazonian women

gibberish · 12/08/2007 21:07

Yep, dd4 (6) is a good 3 inches taller than dd3 (7) now. They have always been roughly the same height but finally dd4 has overtaken dd3. I do think dd4 is going to be the tallest out of all the girls.

Flibbertyjibbet · 12/08/2007 21:12

Mine are only 14m and 2.7yo but ds2 is bigger - wider and taller - than ds1 was at the same age.
My sister had the same thing with her two, 2 year age gap. By the time the younger boy was about 4 1/2 they were the same size then the younger one overtook his brother.

Hers are grown up now but she is still mentally scarred from the realisation all those years ago that there could be no more hand-me-downs as the older one was old enough to notice

oooggs · 12/08/2007 21:19

ds2 is bigger than dd (by 2.5lb )and he is 19 minutes younger

bigmouthstrikesagain · 12/08/2007 21:22

Think thats cheating oogs

bigmouthstrikesagain · 12/08/2007 21:24

My sis and bro are twins and she was always several inches bigger and protected my bro in the playground.
