How to treat an abscess

I have developed an abscess near my armpit Sad. I'm on antibiotics and doc said it should pop by itself and so shouldn't need surgery. It doesn't look ready to pop yet. She said apply hot compress to bring to a head. I tried a hot flannel but obvs it drips everywhere and goes cold really quickly so I've been using a hit water bottle with off the boil water so it's not red hot, just warm and applying over my top clothing....anyone git any better suggestions. Hiw often should u do it? Am also a little concerned what will happen when it pops. I'm going to order some saline solution to flush it with abd u have antiseptic wipes. Should u squeeze it or leave it to self drain? Yuk...makes me feel I'll thinking about it Envy...not envy!!

We need pictures and get this moved to
Sporner's Corner!

I would squeeze by the way but that's just me

Magnesium sulphate under a dressing will help bring it to a head. And a hot flannel really is the best thing for it, just dip the corner in the water and use the rest of the flannel to catch the drops.

Nothing will work without photos. Fact.

Have you got a temperature?

😁...though I might get some photo requests!! It's not v exciting atm as no head...just a red lump!! Thanks for the tips. Will try flannel and mag sulphate....do I get from a chemist....is it like a cream? No temp, ashley....guess antibiotics are keeping on top of the infection...just waiting for the pop 🤮
