Hello I had a lot of samples taken on Tuesday including a celiac screen all are back apart from CA125 does these tests usually take longer to process ? Receptionist seemed to think so . Would they inform GP if there was an abnormal results quicker than this ?

I had blood taken on the Tuesday and my GP phoned me on the Wednesday evening as I had a very raised CA125. CA125 is not a reliable indicator of ovarian cancer, which is what I assume you are concerned about. It can be raised when there is inflammation which was the case with me.

The blood sample is put into a machine that produces a number. It may simply have been sent to a different laboratory.

Some blood tests have to be run in batches so it’s most efficient to run e.g. once a week. If you’re sample arrives the day before the batch, you’ll get the result a week earlier than if it arrives after the batch has started.

It’s dependent on both the test and how the lab works.
