Vagina pain - drs have no clue

Please help!!

I had a baby two months ago (episiotomy followed by two large haematomas in the vagina) so obv a lot of cuts, stitches and trauma down there. I've also had an infection which was treated.

BUT I still have constant pain in the vagina and need to go to the toilet ALL the time. It feels EXACTLY like a urine infection. Tests are clear for infection, I mentioned Vulvodynia and Vagina dryness (atrophy) and dr said no. I’m not having to go private and pay £250 just for the consultation.

Does anyone have ANY clue what it is? I have been in pain and discomfort for two whole months. I can hardly sleep and it's very difficult looking after the baby whilst I am like this. Sometimes it eases off but only for a day or a few hours at a time.

Please help me!

Have you just been seen by a gp? If so I would ask for a referral to a specialist.

I've seen about 5 different GPs, hospital drs, hospital consultants etc. No one knows anything

I don't have any ideas what it might be but I'd recommend seeing a Urogynaecologist if you can. They are gynaecologists specialising in urinary problems, incontinence, recurrent infections, prolapses etc.

I had similar after my first dc which resulted in episiotomy and forceps. I was in constant discomfort and felt like I needed to wee all the time. The exact feeling was hard to descibe.

I saw various specialists and had a urine flow test which showed nothing. I eventually saw a physiotherapist who helped me work on my pelvic floor for a number of months. I had significant weakness which gradually improved. I'm not sure this was the whole cause of the problem, but I think this along with simply time to heal, helped.

Did you find that the pelvic floors hurt when you did then at first? They seem to make the discomfort worse at the moment?

Definitely see a specialist women's health physio. I have symptoms similar to yours and I had a hypertonic pelvic floor which is where the muscles are too tight and go into spasm.

Either way the physio can check your muscles and advise whether you need to strengthen or relax.

As others have said it does take time to feel an improvement.

I'd say nerve damage. ask to be referred to the pain clinic

My GP has prescribed me very strong painkillers usually prescribed for epilepsy. I am on those + ibuprofen AND paracetamol and it doesn't stop the pain!

I do have the private gynaecologist in three days but I can't go on with this pain? I can't sleep and it's difficult looking after my two month old baby. I can't go out bc I’m so uncomfortable and in so much pain

It does sound like your situation is a little different, pp possibly right re nerve damage as mine wasn't pain as such, just a constant uncomfortable and irritated feeling. Sex also felt numb and a bit of an unbearable feeling - I used to feel physically sick.

Either way I think the key is the see a few different specialists to see if someone can figure out what is wrong.

I didn't believe at first that my issue was pelvic floor related, but was prepared to try anything and yes I found the exercises so uncomfortable to do and just generally an unpleasant feeling. Like you, I didn't want to go out or do anything, it was awful. It did really help though.

Do you find it gets any worse if you walk or stand for a long time? Is there any pattern as to when it eases off?

So I saw a private consultant today. He said the drs have wasted 6 weeks giving me different antibiotics and they should have referred me to a physio a long time ago.

I've now be referred but having to pay bc I can't wait any longer. He has given me tolterodine tartrate for my bladder and said to take ibuprofen.

1. can it come and go during the day? Sometimes mine can be painful but then suddenly I’m fine for a bit then it's back.

2. did d-mannose help - how long to take effect?

3. did tolterodine help - how long to take effect?

4. did you follow the diet and did it help?

5. how did yours start?

6. did yours burn before and/or during and/or after peeing?

My consultant is currently deciding whether it is interstitial cystitis or just still recovering from three separate catheters after childbirth (2 months ago) and then some further surgery.

He hasn't done a cystoscopy yet.
