Talk to me about Arachnoid Cysts.....

After spending the last couple of days in hospital with severe headaches, high blood pressure and lots of spots before my eyes, a CT scan (which I was originally told came back completely clear) apparently shows an arachnoid cyst on my brain. The consultant was sure it wasnt connected to my symptoms (they are saying it's all essentially just stress) and that it wasn't anything at all to worry about but now all I can think about is the fact that there is a cyst on my brain! Has anyone any experience of these please?

I am just wondering how you got on? I am in the same boat I was in hospital last week and they found what they think is an arachnoid cyst. They think my symptoms are unrelated but like you it is all I can think about.
I have to wait for an appointment with neurologists to confirm for definite but that can take up to 6 weeks.

Hi there. I saw a neurologist in Feb 2020 and he talked through my scan with me, completely sure it had nothing to do with the headaches and it was just one of those things some people have and that it only usually gets noticed when looking for something else in a scan.

The headaches sort of faded away for a bit but then in November last year they came back with a vengeance so obviously I started worrying again. My own doc put me on amitriptyline which seems to be helping a bit as well as amlodipine for high blood pressure and I begged them to refer me back to the Neurologist. I had a rather unpleasant telephone appointment with him just last week when he told me he didn’t understand why the doctor had made the referral and as he’s already told me, the cyst is nothing to worry about. He WILL apparently book me in for another scan just to make sure everything still looks the same, but really I got the feeling it was just it make me go away
