Has anyone else had similar symptoms to this as I am at a loss what to do. I am a nurse with 10 years experience and can't pin point what this is and the Drs seem stumped too.
I have had right shoulder pain that gradually worsened over a week, and started radiating to my right chest. I took the usual pain killers of Paracetamol, Ibruprofen and added Codeine. However the pain wasn't controlled.
I was woken up early hours of Thursday night with crushing pain to my right shoulder and chest. I called 111 and was advised to go to ED.
ED gave 10Mg IV morphine which only dulled the pain. I could not sit down and was restless having to constantly reposition to try and relieve the pain. ECG, chest x ray and bloods and observations were normal. No pain on examination anywhere. So I was discharged by a very rude Dr after being told there was nothing wrong with me - he hadn't examined me at that point. The nurse was just about to give more Morphine as I was still in severe pain but he told her to throw it away.
I ended up crying and explaining I didn't know what was wrong either but clearly something is to cause me so much pain. He discharged me with a prescription of 2 co codamol tablets and advice to see my GP.
I went straight to the GP, who again examined shoulder, heart, lungs abdomen and found nothing wrong and sent away with Co codamol. I was sign posted to go back to ED if I have another severe pain attack. Which after the last time is the last thing I want to do!
Before this I hadn't visited the GP for over 5 years, never been in hospital or even had an ECG. As a nurse I would never go to ED unless it was necessary but was in the most severe pain of my life but was made to feel like a time waster .
I'm now off sick from work on co codamol which is not managing my pain but feeling it is pointless to go back to the Dr - Help! What would you do?
