Toddler wearing glasses

I'm being a bit ridiculous and pregnant with hormones but DS who is 2 got glasses today and I feel really sad lol..

We found out that he's long sighted (I don't know how much by, vaguely remember his script) but this is a bit of a shock to me as I just thought he would have a patch or something for 2hrs a day. I'm short sighted, I don't use them too much but I have no idea where this has come from.

DS has been so good, kept them on for about an hour but it just makes me sad they're covering his pretty face. Dr said he'd probably have to wear them full time until he's 10/11.

Anyone else find trouble adjusting to it? Don't get me wrong I'm happy this was fixed before school and it'll benefit him so much now but it's just seeing him wear them.

A patch is used when sight is poorer in one eye. It doesnt help long sight. My dd has worn glasses since she was 18 months old and to start with I was sad and a bit shocked as neither dh or I wear glasses. She now looks strange without them (shes nearly 16 and still has them, also for long sight)

It took me a while to get used to DD wearing glasses, especially as neither me nor her father needed them. Now I'm always asking where they are because her face looks bare without them!

As a side note, you should have a copy of his prescription

I've kept most of dds prescriptions too. It shows how the sight changes over time

Both my son's wear glasses, one has a patch and they both got them as toddlers. I was upset, but now it's just normal.

It was difficult to get my oldest to wear glasses and his patch, he was about 18 months when he got them. I put them on when he was doing something fun, and slowly over time he started to wear them all the time. You just need to keep going with it and he will get used to it. He still argues about wearing patches but knows he has to.

I went to spec savers, we had the receipt and she binned that so I never got a copy just the glasses. I suppose we could ring and ask for it or I'll ask when he goes back to hospital.

He's doing OK bless him, must be helping if he wants to keep them on. Lady recommended 30 minutes a day build up and I'm giving him stickers.

Think I was a bit emotional last night, I know they're good for him but it has made me a bit sad.

My son has had glasses now since he was 18 months old - long sighted and squint (which he's now had corrected with surgery). They did look odd to me when he first got them but now i can't imagine him without them. He gets lots of compliments on them too. So far there has been no teasing either - i think a lot more kids wear them now than used to. Good luck on building up the wearing - i found my son was keen to wear them, he really can't see too well without them.

My DD was a bit older when she started wearing glasses at 5. Nearly everyone in her class wore glasses at that time! She was so delighted that she could see things she hadn't before, I felt really guilty that I hadn't spotted an issue sooner.
She has pretty poor eyesight (-8) but at 13 started using contact lenses. She still wears her glasses most of hte time, but likes her lenses for dance and when she is going out. Wears them to school on PE days etc.
Just think of the positives of being able to see properly.

I was worried it might make school a bit difficult as he'd look different but your comments put my mind at ease :).

His 2nd cousin who's 4 made a comment about his eye (when DS strains his eyes to see, his eye went in) but the glasses have stopped this, but yeah I worried about other children saying about the glasses (if he's anything like me and I hope not, I'm a bit sensitive).

He's really good, seems to like them more for looking at my Tablet, colouring and books, blocks ect. If he's off running he doesn't want them though but I'm more than happy. We just have to work up to him wearing them for nursery for a few hours.
