Blood when I poo

Hi all,

TMI, but I noticed this morning I had abit of blood in my poo. It wasn't like liquid blood, just looked like abit of tissue with blood on it. I've only noticed it this morning, but I've been panicking about it all day.

I'm going to make an appointment on Monday but has anyone else experienced it at all?

It’s piles.

What kind of blood? Bright or dark and have you been eating red stuff recently like beetroot/peppers etc

Jamielyn · 07/09/2019 16:50

It's like fresh blood. Not eaten beetroot's or peppers

It's just a little tear/scratch around the anus then. Quite possibly piles, especially if the area is itchy.

No need for panic.

Serious blood loss in stool is darker blood, from further up the system.

Fresh blood is often from a small cut somewhere inside. It's generally not too serious, so don't worry. By all means get it checked out, though, but don't ruin your weekend worrying about it.

Is it fresh blood? Do you have to strain when going? I wouldn't see a doctor for a one off like this tbh - but if it carries on, or if it's dried blood (indicating a problem further back in your system than your anus), then definitely book an app, but they most probably won't even examine you for a one off like this.
