Heart rate got to 176

Was just sitting. Had a funny feeling - realised palpitations and my fitness tracker showed heart rate racing up. Went back down within half an hour. No GP appts available. I might go today. What can I do to avoid this happening? What does it mean?

Your heart is way too fast and 176 is dangerous. I would advise you go to A&E tbh. Do you have any cardiac problems or respiratory?

Thank you. I did phone GP. Husband said he would’ve called an ambulance. I had no other problems/symptoms. No history but I did have left chest pains a few months ago and am having an ecg. What happens if it gets ‘too’ high?

Your heart is working harder and faster than normal, the fit bit could be incorrect but if in doubt please get it checked out.

Could be a thyroid problem. Make sure you get your thyroid levels checked.
