Bugs crawling on me and twitches

Has anyone ever experienced the sensation of bugs crawling on them (all over, no particular place) and muscles fasiculating or twitching, without having a diagnosis of MS or MND? And has anyone ever had the sensation of a mobile phone going off in their body, AND heard it 'vibrate' too?

I had MRI last week, have nerve conductivity test in 2 weeks, feel absolutely fine other than these unusual symptoms. Send me some alternative options to the dreaded ones I've named above!

I've got deep muscle damage to my hip from running too much, and I think it's all connected to that, but curious to see if there are others with experience out there who have other thoughts.

Have you had your blood tested for deficiencies? Do you eat a decent diet? Low B12 can cause neurological symptoms. I saw a neurologist for twitching a couple of years ago (before B12 deficiency being picked up) and they weren't interested. Also look up benign fasciculation.

Yes - had bloods done and B12 is fine. I drink a berocca most days and diet is good although 50% meat/50% veggie. Benign fasiculation is looking most likely at the moment. Neurologist did the usual strength tests, touching nose with eyes closed, walking on tip toes etc and I'm absolutely fine.

I can only comment on the issue of feeling like bugs are crawling on your skin. With me it was a peri menopausal system. There is a word it I think based on the Latin word for ants something like formication. I mentioned it to my GP and she had never heard of it!

Yes it is formication. Like fornication but less fun.

I experience peri-related formication as well, it’s infuriating at times. Just started HRT so hoping that will help it. I had it a bit on anti-depressants too.

I’ve had the mobile phone thing (left thigh) and weird sensations in my feet. Never bad enough to seek advice, and seem to have stopped now - possibly had a mild B12 deficiency and now take Berocca (Wilkos version!).

I have - but I have antiphospholipid syndrome, which mimics lots of MS symptoms though it's not neurological.

I get muscle twitches when I'm tired. They go away when I more rested. I do remember getting that mobile phone sensation on and off for several months, a few years ago. Haven't had it for ages now. I seem to remember that I experienced it more often if I was wearing corduroy/needlecord trousers, but that might just be a coincidence.

I got this when my disc prolapsed in my back. I was constantly brushing my legs thinking there were bugs on them or sometimes they felt wet like water dripping down them.

I get this when I take Tramadol. I want to itch my own skin off.

I have MS.. it isn't so bad. These days so much more can be done. Hope you have a nicer result.

Me. 20 years ago. I was petrified. They never got to the bottom of it, I saw several neurologists in London and so far it hasn't developed further. I still get it sometimes when I'm very tired or run down. Hopefully nothing.

I've been diagnosed with chronic migraine and a diagnosis again (after many years of nothing) of epilepsy but even inbetween migraines and seizures I get this and areas of numbness and muscle twitches most days. I've been told by my neurologist that it is neurological, I think there can be many causes for it though, hope they give you an answer soon.

I have both of those symptoms. Bum, leg and shoulder twitching, and things crawling on me - the feeling of little mites on me.

I didn’t know it was a sign of MS, I’m having huge fatigue issues too. I haven’t bothered seeing the doc again lately as after a year of back, shoulder and stomach issues I got no where... they’ve tested my thyroid and that’s fine.

If you find a solution let me know!

I had the bug thing, so many UTIs, twitching at night and cluster migraines and a few more things, it ended up being very low ferritin levels.

Yes me. Had this for about 13 years now. I posted about this a couple of years ago - internal tremors like a washing machine on spin inside me, skin sensations like a mobile phone vibrating, small skin tremors, eyebrow twitching, crackling sensation at top of neck, feeling of crawling on back or on legs. Right ear feels full and muffled, though hearing is not affected. I also get disequilibrium - the feeling of not knowing where you are in space - makes you feel sick and dizzy.

My symptoms come on, last for a couple of months then gradually get better. I do get exacerbations occasionally, where symptoms flare up in a minor way and disappear within a week.

All blood tests including the autoimmune ones were clear. MRI brain and full spine clear. Extensive ENT hearing and balance tests clear. So no diagnosis. Both the neuro and the ent consultant said they’d met people like me before, but not to be surprised if tests were clear - which they were!

I think it’s a nerve issue, for which tests to identify structural damage don’t exist. Even the GP said that I’d never have got the referral on the nhs as this is common

Thanks for all your insights. My spine and brain MRI came back normal today. I am awaiting results from hip MRI, and also have the dreaded nerve conductivity test coming up soon too. Anyone had one of these? Are they as bad as they sound? Am delighted brain scan is clear, so no Ms, but wonder whether like @marscspone I wont get a clear diagnosis. Since having a thing called dry needling, my mobile phone vibrations have stopped, which reinforces idea that this is muscular. My deep fear is/was MND which has muscle twitches (as well as muscle atrophy) and which my mum died of fairly recently. I just seem to always have a buzzing sensation somewhere in my body, often my feet or little finger. It constantly feels like mites are all over me. But my body is strong and I am not overly fatigued (aren't we all knackered?).

I was under the impression when I looked into it 2 years ago, that the sensory symptoms such as buzzing and crawling were not a symptom of MND.

Have you googled functional neurological disorder?

Oooh no, I'll look it up now - thanks @marscapone. It's so unusual isn't it! The MND alert was just the constant muscle fasiculations, but without the muscle wasting I was optimistic that it's not the issue. The bugs crawling sensation - really no idea about that.

Op I get buzzing in my finger tips and also my back and sometimes my jawline. I'm yet to find out what has caused this as I've been discharged from the neurologist because theres 'nothing wrong with me.

Good news about the clear mri.

@heebee what other tests did you have? And are you in your forties or older? Lots of people say bugs crawling sensation is perimenopausal, but my hormone levels are fine. Unless you can have perimenopausal symptoms without having any change to hormone levels and normal periods? Any endocrinologists out there?

I have had similar and it was put down to my magnesium levels being high.

@Teachdeanta that's very interesting. Is there such a thing as too much magnesium? Did you notice a cessation of sensory issues once you stopped taking it?

I have recently been experiencing a crawling sensation in my legs. Following blood tests which revealed a low-side of normal magnesium level I have been supplementing with magnesium spray. The crawling has completely gone. Might be worth a try?

@Mythreeknights I’m just about to turn 40. I could be peri menopausal! I might try a magnesium supplement based on responses, I spend a lot of time itching and twitching lol
