Kidney infection recovery

I had a UTI last week and quickly got some antibiotics (Macrobid). These eased the UTI symptoms but a day or so later I noticed pain in my back and side. Went back to Dr and diagnosed kidney infection and prescribed co-amoxiclan (sp?) these helped a bit but I still had deep aching in my back and groin 5 days later so I went again and this time prescribed ciprofloxicin which I've talked for the past day and half. Dr took urine samples and confirmed positive for renal infection.

It's now been a week since back ache/kidney symptoms started and I'm still having aching back and sides. My lower abs feel a bit tender and bloated too. I'm also shattered. Thankfully haven't had sickness or fever though.

If you've had a kidney infection, how long did it take for you to feel completely better again?

Haven’t had one for years but got them regularly until I was about 19.

The aches usually go between 10 days and 2 weeks. Use hot water bottles, heat patches, warm baths and drink lots of water.

Hope you feel better soon!

It took me over a month to get back to normal but I was hospitalised for nearly 2 weeks. I was still getting pains 3/4 weeks later.

Thanks both... perhaps I need to sit tight for a bit longer then and wait it out. I'm just a bit worried that it's been going on for a week already and I'm still in pain. It's really quite horrible.

They are horrible and painful! Be kind to yourself.

Did you find the pains continued a bit after the antibiotics finished?

Yes - I was usually on a week of meds and would still have the pains for a week or so after. Like a tender/cramp feeling?

catsandkid · 02/09/2019 08:29

@LittleTopic Yes, that's exactly it. I'm feeling so so much better now but now and again I still have the weird cramps (sometimes in my back, feeling a bit like period pain) and it feels tender if my toddler climbs on me near my sides or back! Glad to hear its normal anyway...wasn't sure if I needed to go back for more antibs!

(it's Poorlypoppet by the way...sorry I NC!)
