TSH thyroid tests

Hi I'm just after some advice really.

For the last 3-4 years I've been suffering from really bad fatigue and the last year it's now progressed to really bad dizziness and headaches. Ive fainted twice. I've also put on 2 stone in the last 2 years.

I'm really active- walk 8-9 miles 3 times a week and also run 3-4 miles twice a week. I also eat very healthy and limit alcohol to maybe once a month. Basically there is no explanation for symptoms.

I've had thyroid tested 3 times on nhs and they've never given me my results- just said it was slightly over and no action to be taken.

Out of desperation I paid privately and had my bloods taken. My TSH is at 4.8 and while that may be low for some people (I think NHS generally doesn't act unless it's over 5)- the private doctor told me as I'm experiencing symptoms I should have this looked into.

My friend has a TSH of 5.5 and has been told it should be brought down below 2.5. I've also been trying to conceive for 17 months and all my other tests are coming back fine.

Has anyone else had this experience with the NHS? I've another GP Appointment tomorrow.
