Hiv test result

I have a 5 yr old and pg now. The midwife has called me as she is wanting a second blood test as she believe there was a false positive hiv test. I was so confused as don’t understand how it would even be possible to be hiv positive. I’m certain I was tested back when I had my lo but never heard anything so assumed it was fine. Since my lo I have not had blood transfusions, don’t do drugs and I’ve only been with my husband who is father of the my lo so can’t think how I could have got it since. I have had a nurse say it’s really common for a false positive but I don’t know. I was recovering from cystitis at the same time does anyone know if that would affect this.

My poor husband has been told I won’t go near him until I have results.

@Scaredmummy2 just seen your post. So sorry, this must be very scary for you (although having HIV nowadays, though tough, is really not as bad as it's all cracked up to be!).

Just to reassure - it is true that the HIV test is really sensitive and more like to throw up a false positive than a false negative result. There are a few different reasons for this, but perhaps this article (from a good trusted source) might explain further.
