Hammer toes

All my life I've had scrunched-up claw-like toes. My brother and sister used to tease me about them when I was small.

I'd always assumed this was something fixed and uncheangeable, and that my high arches were equally unchangeable (I think I thought they were a literal arch made of a single piece of bone).

Googling around, though, I've discovered that both toes and arches can be altered by stretches and exercises -- and also that it is worth trying to improve them, to avoid pain and deterioration as I age.

So I've been doing some stretches, massage, modified walking. It is very rewarding. I feel like my toes are 10 newly acquired little pets that I can cherish and tame. Perhaps I will name them.

Anyway, I wondered if anyone else had tried using exercises and stretching to modify their suboptimal toes and arches, and whether they had had much luck.

Also if anyone had any particular recommendations of exercises or products to rehabilitate toes.

I’m watching this and hoping someone will come along who can answer your questions, as I too have been wondering if hammer toes can be improved with exercises.

@AlphaNumericalSequence I know this is an old thread, but please tell me more about the techniques you have been doing. I also thought hammer toes could not be changed, so would live to try and do something about mine!
