Panic attacks or hormones?

Uuuutgh. I'm under a fair bit of pressure. Nothing I can't usually handle though. My last period was 2 weeks ago and for the last 2 weeks I've been an emotional wreck. I'm starting to feel really low and I've had about 6 panic attacks since my period finished, fairly big ones over small non issue type things.

It's absolutely exhausting. Could this be panic attacks or some kind of post period PMT? It feels like that uncontrollable pmt crying over spilt milk type thing! I'm usually alright with pmt. want chocolate and attention a few days before period!

I'm 35, mother started menopause around 40.

Sorry you're having such a stressful time.

I would have thought that's stress / anxiety but as your Mum had an early menopause maybe go to doctor for hormone blood test to see and they maybe able to help with anxiety / stress too.

Thank you! It's probably a normal amount of pressure and stress! Usual life stuff and certainly nothing I haven't been able to handle before. In fact I've been through a lot worse and held it together! I just can't stop crying and shaking at the smallest things just now. I literally can't hold it together.

I keep stopping myself calling the doctor because I just think what's the point. Can they do something to help?

Yes the doctors can help. They can prescribe anti-anxiety meds which work for some people or you can self-refer to counselling via here:

They can also run blood tests to check for hormones or any medical conditions. It is fairly common to get anxious / stressed at times esp. once you have children - all the Mums I know have had periods of this. If it is that its best to ask for help now as sometimes there are delays and you can always cancel later if you get better.
