Neuralgia

Anyone suffer with neuralgia? I'm late 30's and have had it on and off for years, usually in my ears and my neck, sometimes in my collarbone and around the back of my head. This evening I got it all around my right shoulder and it was excruciating. Painkillers do nothing and I basically have to just ride it out and hope that it passes. The only way to describe it is it is like being electrocuted! I've been to the GP but she was inexperienced in this area and I sat and watched her google it!Confused so I'm wondering if anyone has experience of this, what they do to relieve it and what sort of specialist might I see go get some kind of diagnosis and the appropriate treatment? It can be so debilitating, I expect like a migraine can be. The only thing I'm sure of, it seems to flare up when I am sick or have a high temperature, not sure why though.
