Dentist- extraction

I've had problems with a tooth for 10+ years now. I had to have a root canal on the tooth and unfortunately it didn't work, it keeps becoming infected and there's a big abscess on it now so the dentist has recommended that I have it extracted.

I'm terrified of needles so have been stressing about it ever since.

The dentist gave me 5 days of antibiotics and was going to do the extraction but then cancelled the appointment on the fifth day.

I then go in today to get it done but the infection and abscess is back, it's all very painful and he said he can't do it because it's infected again! So I've now got 7 days of antibiotics and am getting it done next Tuesday.

Before I pointed out the abscess the dentist said that he is going to give an injection that numbs one side of the mouth. He said it can be unpleasant. I'm now worrying- does he mean unpleasant as in it hurts or unpleasant as in it's numb and you can't speak?

Anybody had this done that can put my mind as ease?

Thanks!

The local anaesthetic injections will numb the side of your jaw & cheek where the extraction will be. If it is an upper jaw extraction, your face will be numb from your ear to your nose, your lip will be numb, if it is a lower jaw extraction, you will be numb along your lower jawline & bottom lip. The injections don't take long & wear off after a couple of hours, just be careful to not bite your inner cheek & lips while they are numb.

I had a tooth extracted under similar circumstances. Honestly it was fine, over with so quickly. Nothing compared to the root canal work I’d had before!! I was a nervous wreck and amazed at how easily it came out. Good luck Flowers
