Is there anything I can do to stop throwing up?

Probably a stupid question, but I'm kind of willing to try anything at this point! I've picked up a tummy bug and have been vomiting since Friday night. Sometimes I'm going a couple of hours feeling better... and then it starts again!

Is there anything at all I can do to make this pass more quickly, from experience? I have a 10-week-old baby and my DP is due to go away for work tomorrow :/ So I need to get well quickly!!

Can you get to a pharmacy and get some Buccastem to help with the nausea? Are you managing to stay hydrated?
Stick to bland foods, little and often, avoid dairy and keep drinking clear fluids.

I took some already but I don't know if I kept it down because I was sick really soon after.

Eating and drinking is just making me sick at the moment (I've just been trying bland soup and water and crackers and stuff) so I feel like I don't want to keep trying because I'm so tired of throwing up. Yuk! But I don't actually feel dehydrated, I don't think. Just sick and headachey!

Ice cubes can help with dehydration. Hope you feel better soon Thanks

Buccastem M Buccal tablets. You don't swallow it - they kind tuck under your lip, against your gums.

I had a vomiting bug last year and the doctor prescribed it but you can get it over the counter. If it's bad, see the doctor and they can give you an injection to relieve the nausea and vomiting too.

Just plain water until you stop being sick - its likely the food is irritating your poorly tummy.

Thanks for the good advice! DP had to stay back from work because I'm still no better...ugh! Can't believe how long this is going on!

Are you still vomiting? Since Friday? Are you eating anything that could be aggravating it?

I know some bugs can drag on but that's a long time to be actively vomiting.

Skinandbones · 19/08/2019 21:04

My dd was like this for about 10 days, her dp took her to a and e because she couldn't keep anything down. 6 hours later still hadn't been seen and yes I know there are more urgent case. She tried dioralyte, bought from the chemist which helped. Its rough when you have a Lo.

bellainthemiddle · 19/08/2019 21:10

Yeah, I'm still actually vomiting - it seems like a very long time to me, but that might just be because I'm getting seriously fed up of it :/

I don't think it can be anything I'm eating - because I've eaten only the blandest things or sticking to water. Occasionally I'll have a few hours where it seems to have stopped - and then it starts again!

DP keeps mentioning going to A&E or the UCC, but sitting in a waiting room for 4+ hours, either by myself or with DP and a 10 week old baby, does not seem like a great idea! And I'm sure it's just a bug anyway. I've got horrible stomach cramps, but it's not the kind of agonising pain that I think it would be if I had anything serious :/

If you're not keeping water down after all this time I would ring 111 for advice, obviously if it's a bug you don't want to be in a waiting room potentially infecting others but it does seem like a long time, do you have diarrhoea too?

bellainthemiddle · 19/08/2019 21:38

Thanks, 111 is a good idea actually - I hadn't thought of that! I do have diarrhoea too (tmi warning), really really badly. After a while I had to just stay sat on the loo, otherwise I would be running there every 10 minutes! But it comes and goes a bit. That only started yesterday though.
