Treating cellulitis when pregnant

I'm 7 weeks pregnant, and I'm on holiday in Mallorca. I've been bitten by a few mossies, and two of the bits have turned nasty with redness spreading around the bite to about the size of a hand. Will get to see a doctor or pharmacist in next leg of holiday (we fly to Croatia today). Does any one know how they might treat it if it is cellulitis, which I have had from bites before?

I am a consultant dermatologist.

The main thing is to tell the difference between severe insect bite reactions and cellulitis as they can look similar. If you are feeling unwell or have a fever then it is cellulitis. Most doctors end up treating for cellulitis if they are not sure.

Antibiotics such as Co-amoxiclav (or Clarithromycin if you are allergic to penicillin) are safe in pregnancy.

Hope you get well soon.
