Feeling sea sick on dry land

Sorry to bug you all but I am feeling quite awful and I am just after a bit of advice.
I was driving home from work on thruday night and all of sudden I thuoght like I was going to pass out and felt really sick. I pulled over and had to sit there for about 30mins I felt all shacky and nausious. I had to just drive in the end or I would have een sat there all night, I dont know how I made it home but when I arrived I was sick a lot and felt like I was sea sick and about to pass out. I went to bed and felt a bit better yesterday morning but still feel like I am about to pass out any minute and slightly nausious. I am managing to eat and a feel better once I have.
I am laid in bed at the minute and my head feels like someone has played basket ball with it and put it back. my eyes strugle to focus and I feel slightly drunk.
I dont know if it is a bug or I have eaten something dodgy. I have never felt like this before it is a bit strange.

If you close your eyes, does it feel like the world is spinning? If so, it's probably labyrinthitis. I'd go talk to a GP, if it doesn't sort itself out very soon. I'd expect more and different symptoms if this was a bug or food poisoning.

Desiderata · 04/08/2007 17:00

Or the classic symptoms of vertigo, which is an inner ear imbalance.

Either way, you must get to the GP.

Hope you feel better soon.

Twiglett · 04/08/2007 17:03

ear infection or similar you need to see a doctor

MoosMa · 04/08/2007 17:04

Could you be anaemic? I feel like this when I am. Or low blood pressure can do things like that too.

jodie1984 · 04/08/2007 17:09

Thanks, I thought i would have ear ache if I had an ear infection lol

I do get anaemic sometimes, as I have got endometriosis and have iron tablets but I dont usually feel nausious just faint.

And yes when I close my eyes i feel worse unless I am laid down and then its better.

i had a migraine which was just like this
i was on the M25 and had to pull over and just couldn't stop throwing up. struggling to focus is what makes me think this is a bad bad migraine.

haven't had vertigo though, so can't comment on that.

Callmemadam · 05/08/2007 21:45

Hi Jodie1984 - hope you are feeling a bit better, but yes, you should go and see your GP tomorrow without fail - it is most likely a bug, but there is a very very slight chance that it could be something more serious to do with blood pressure so you must get it checked out asap. Hope you feel much better soon!

pucca · 05/08/2007 21:48

Jodie, I suffer with severe migraine (on betablockers to control them) and also had/still have vertigo.

It sounds like vertigo to me, i was given tablets by my GP and it had worn off but i still get lost slightly when walking across a dark room!

Go to GP and get some treatment asap, it is awful.

littlelapininhercar · 05/08/2007 21:59

My sister had this, didn't do anything about it, ended up with a perforated eardrum . Get thee to the doctor, and feel better

amidaiwish · 06/08/2007 17:02

jodie - how are you today?

wangle99 · 06/08/2007 18:20

My Mum feels like this when she has vertigo. So does my MIL. Mum gets it also when she has an inner ear infection.

Hope you managed to get a GP appt.

edam · 06/08/2007 18:25

Agree with suggestions of ear infections (vertigo is a symptom) but it could be a middle ear infection (junior doc insisted I didn't have an ear infection, GP took one look and said yes, it was, only it was middle ear, not inner).

jodie1984 · 06/08/2007 20:38

Thanks for all of your replies, I went to GP's this morning. She thinks it could be a viral ear infection but she said my ears look fine so it could be something else. She was very good I was in there for ages. My BP was 116/75 she didn't say anything about it so I assume it is ok.
She gave me prochlorperazine maleate tablets to take to control the nausea and so far they are working and I feel abit better. I have to go back next week so I hope these do the trick.

Thanks Jodie x
