Swelling under one eye

I'm abroad atm and got swelling under one eye, roughly 1/2 inch deep and 1 inch wide red, not itchy. Eye is fine.

Chemist thinks probably an allergic reaction and given anti-histamine. Never had this before (get swelling in ankles a bit now but nothing in face and don't think that's related, this appeared in sleep). Allergic reaction seems plausible and maybe an insect bit me. Was canoeing on river night before and been around animals quite a bit. Not allergic to animals but allergic to hay though never had this reaction. No food allergies and food has been not that different to normal except eggs are white but think hens eggs still. Onn no medicines.

Taken anti-histamine for 2 days now with no effect. Its annoying more than anything else. Does anyone know how long they take to work? Leaflet is in Swedish but I think it says in 7 days see a doctor. Now in Norway - not sure how long to give it before going back to chemist / seeing doctor / optician. Anyone had this before? There is a tiny red dot. My Dad had similar when I was a child but remember he ended up needing to go to hospital but hoping if I treat it will just reduce by itself. It got bigger yesterday after first anti-histamine but appears stable now. Thanks.

It's not a stye is it, OP? I used to get these when I was little... www.nhs.uk/conditions/stye/

Bumping this for you for other opinions, anyway. Hope it gets better soon!

Thanks very much Hebe I don't think its a stye as its not painful and I'm not sure its even connected to eye, its now dropped a little. Its just like full of air or soft at least.

I've put some hydrocortisone cream as well and now have had 4 anti-histamine tablets and its gone down maybe 25% and has sunk to the cheek. Think will just keep doing that, just hoping not getting bit again tonight. Think must be allergic reaction to insect bite. Should be OK now as long as don't get more bites on face.
