Head lice

How can I tell if I've got headlice or just dandruff? I think I've seen a couple of headlice in my daughters hair. Tiny little black things plus some white bits that could be the nits or possibly dandruff as she also gets that bad sometimes. I also get bad flaky scalp. I've used the headlice stuff and been regularly combing. I've found a few in my daughters hair but not alot. I dry combed mine and there seemed alot of white stuff how do I know if its just dandruff or not? Some bits were quite big. I can't ask anyone to do it for me either. So far I haven't seen any black bugs in the comb or on the toilet roll.

You would usually feel itchy, or like there's something scurrying around. I caught it from DS once, and there was a definite feeling of something creepy crawly in my hair. I use the nitty gritty comb and it was clear when it was headlice, you can see their legs moving.

@GruciusMalfoy hmmm I'm wondering the ones I thought I saw in my daughter hair were live then 🤔 they were black but weren't really moving and were at the front of her head near her forehead. I couldn't see legs. I do get an itchy scalp sometimes but it's usually in once place and I'm guess the itchy would be all over?

You won't find anything by dry combing.
Use a lice preparation that dessicates (dimeticone or similar) them rather than an insecticide as some are resistant to those.
Thoroughly wet the hair with the lotion and wait, then comb through with the nit comb.
Do both of you and any other children in the family. If you have them you will see easily: once dead there is no mistaking them.

Dimeticone is the main ingredient in hair glossers so don't worry about using them even if you aren't sure. It won't do any harm.
